making it work #8
Accountability Cat, Slock, LinkedIn Mash, Browserbase!
This is the eighth post in a new series called making it work — where I document what I’m actually building with AI, what broke, what surprised me, and what it means if you’re a marketer who keeps hearing terms you don’t know but nodding like you know what it all means.
I’m going bi-weekly for the summer! Traveling to Europe soon, took on some contracts, it’s summer… the usual reasons to slow down without actually stopping! Trying to keep myself accountable.
I’m still trying new things and want to keep a record of it whether I’m on a Greek island or not. If you’re listening to the video, I apologize for all the um’s and ah’s. I haven’t spoken to a camera in 2 weeks! Here’s what’s been taking my screen time!
Town
I found out about Town two days ago via AI Snack Bites with Monica Abrams, and it’s already in my rotation. It reads your inbox, briefs you before every meeting, and provides a brief on the person you’re meeting. Who they are, what you’ve exchanged, what threads are open. It also shows you the people you interact with most, your team, and active threads. It’s proactive, not reactive.
To me, it’s like Gumloop and Littlebird made a baby. The best part is you don’t need to build anything. Previously, I received morning briefs in my inbox via a Gumloop workflow. My credits ran out, so Town was a timely fix!
There was an outage the other day, so some briefings were delayed. Hopefully it won’t happen again! Dealbreaker if it’s a pattern.
Another downside is that you need to give it inbox access, which I know is what makes some people put it down immediately.
Slock
Slock is a Slack channel where some of your teammates are agents. You build a workspace, add humans and agents side by side, assign tasks, drop in files, and everything lives in one channel. Each agent has skills, a defined scope of what it can and can’t do. The idea is that your agent team and your human team aren’t operating in parallel anymore; they’re in the same room, and you don’t need to switch between different windows to orchestrate them.
The setup requires connecting your terminal and your computer. Those two also need to be running for the agents to stay online. Once it’s running, though, you can add Claude commands, build out skills, and basically treat agents the way you’d treat a colleague you can ping in Slack at 11 pm without guilt.
I hit my free credits before I could do a full demo (sorry). But I do wonder how work will change in the next few years. Will agents also benefit from being in a shared channel, or is this all just a UI thing?
Browserbase
Browserbase is the hands and eyes for Claude, or any LLM. Claude (because I’m a Claude stan) is the brain, while Browserbase is what actually looks at the screen, navigates pages, and scrolls through content. It fetches JavaScript, etc etc!
You launch it from Claude Code (that’s the right way to do it; I tried it through regular chat when I hit a wall), and per session it shows you exactly which pages it visited and what it was looking at. You can see its browsing behavior. And it’s a lot cooler than traditional browsing.
Never thought I’d say this, but browser-as-a-service is pretty cool.
LinkedIn things
Finally, I looked into some LinkedIn things.
The first is an accountability tool: the accountability cat! You post your LinkedIn content there, and it holds you to a cadence. I haven't been posting on LinkedIn and need to fix that!
The second thing I looked at is LinkedMash (sorry I said LinkedIn Mash), which solves a problem I have: I save a lot of posts and then can never find them. LinkedMash lets you search your saved posts. I typed in “product marketing” and got back everything I’d saved that was tagged or adjacent to product marketing.
I’ve said it before and will say it again: my favorite category of products is the one that fixes big little problems!
See you in a fortnight. Hoping to have tried ClipCheck by then (retrieving my Outlook account!)
Subscribe if you want this in your inbox every week. Honest, mid-process, no clean answers. Or reply and tell me what you’re building. Going to be doing this every Thursday!
